The Hevy Music Festival was a small alternative music festival which took place each August in south-east Kent. In 2010, the event expanded, taking place over an entire weekend and putting on over 100 bands across 4 stages to offer a more complete festival package.
To promote this expansion, Hevy asked for a completely new website that effectively emphasised all of the new features and attractions of the expanded festival, but which also incorporated their favourite aspects of the previous year’s site – the immersive interactive user interface elements and animations and the graphic presentation of the festival lineup.
Working with the in-house illustrators at Phenotype, I expanded the festival’s brand identity to incorporate a set of mascot characters that represented the new and returning festival attractions and evolved the previous year’s typographical style to have a fresh, exciting look to evoke the event’s new direction.
The website was again built on the open source MODx CMS platform with a XHTML + CSS front end and an even greater array of jQuery-powered user interface enhancements, such as an in-page navigation widget for the festival lineup section that followed users up and down the page.
